PREVENT INDIVIDUALS FROM BECOMING entrenched IN homelessness
Foundations for Social Change incubates solutions that provide flexibility to the ‘hidden homeless’ population to avoid becoming entrenched in homelessness. Often, this is access to unrestricted cash.

together, we are making an impact.
The ‘hidden homeless’ population have often experienced an event in their lives such as: injury, job loss, family violence and/or a drastic change in circumstance. Often without the financial means to support the impact of this event, and with few to no other options, they turn to living in shelters, their cars, couch surfing and on the streets.
Providing unrestricted cash to people who begin experiencing homelessness, to positively intervene as early as possible, is not merely a gesture of help.
It is a proven catalyst for change and a signal that society believes in them.
By donating, you provide opportunities for people like Ray and many more to move beyond homelessness and navigate to a better future. This is the power of believing you can make a difference.

your gift in action
Cash transfers can generate a cumulative impact. As people regain stability and reduce stress, they can focus beyond their most basic needs and transform their lives for the better.
RAY
“The cash transfer gave me the resources to get out of the shelter and push for the social programs and the computer class I needed. It was an important stepping stone.
It gave me a choice. It gave me a chance.”
PATHWAY TO HOMELESSNESS
Everything was turned completely upside down when Ray became ineligible for employment insurance. After 20 years off the streets, Ray found himself in a situation he thought he’d never find himself in again - homelessness.
THE CASH TRANSFER
When he received his cash transfer, Ray invested in things that gave him stability. With the help of a friend he found housing, and suddenly he wasn’t stressing as much about getting the things he needed just to survive.
MOVING FORWARD
Ray now has a career he is proud of and has now built a stable life. Having finished school and now working as a community support worker, he uses his own experience and passion to help others in similar situations get back on their feet. Ray is confident about his future.
SUSAN
“I couldn’t see that far ahead, I had no hope. Then when the money came and I found housing and day care, it all came into place. It was so nice.
“It enabled me to go back to the work that I loved”
PATHWAY TO HOMELESSNESS
After years of domestic violence, Susan fled her abuser, moving into a shelter with her young son. She took stress leave from her full-time role as a community disability service worker and as her time at the shelter neared its limit, Susan began to face the very real prospect of having to give up her son.
THE CASH TRANSFER
When Susan received the cash transfer, she knew exactly what she wanted to do: find a place for her and her son, invest in a car and get her job back. Within the first month Susan was successful in meeting these goals, using the cash transfer to move into shared accommodation and purchasing a car so that she could go back to work and transport her son to school.
MOVING FORWARD
Susan plans to use the remaining money to help bridge the cost of living until she is able to return to work in the coming months.
